Acadia School of Midwifery & Women’s Health

Bridging Ancestral Wisdom and Clinical Excellence

The mission of the Acadia School of Midwifery & Women's Health is to educate and mentor future midwives through a rigorous, globally minded, and values-driven program rooted in evidence-based medicine, woman-centered care, and trauma-informed practice.

Acadia prepares highly skilled and compassionate midwives capable of serving diverse communities across the reproductive lifespan. The program integrates strong academic foundations, immersive clinical education, and mentorship from experienced faculty to support the development of competent and ethical practitioners. The school is committed to restoring and honoring traditional birth knowledge while maintaining rigorous academic and clinical standards.

Through the Bachelor of Science in Midwifery and the Master of Midwifery & Women's Health, Acadia seeks to democratize access to midwifery education, facilitate knowledge sharing across diverse communities, and foster community-led models of care. Graduates are prepared to contribute to maternal and reproductive health systems locally and globally, with particular attention to underserved and remote communities.

Acadia School of Midwifery seeks to advance midwifery as a critical public health solution to improving maternal and newborn outcomes and to strengthen respectful, community-rooted models of midwifery care.

We aim to democratize access to midwifery education, facilitate knowledge sharing, and foster community-led midwifery.

Acadia School of Midwifery is for whom?

Acadia is for those who aspire to become primary care midwives — licensed or otherwise — and to carry the profound responsibility of walking with women and families through the childbearing continuum.

It is for those who wish to hold space with unwavering respect for women’s sovereignty, to co-hold the medical responsibilities of midwifery, and to root their practice in the art and science of midwifery, trauma-informed care, and woman-centred approaches.

This is an invitation to join a movement of authentic Women’s Health Practitioners, dedicated to confronting the harm of the dominant system, decolonizing birth practices, and embodying a deep commitment to honouring women’s autonomy and the sacredness of their journeys.

Education Pillars

Our Commitments

Affirming Diversity

Acadia School of Midwifery supports, celebrates and affirms diversity in all forms. At times we will speak about “women’s bodies” to acknowledge the political & historical need to advocate for cis-men to no longer be the standard upon which we based our understanding of cis-women’s health. However, we also recognize that there are people across the gender spectrum for whom the term “women’s bodies” is exclusionary and who experience menstruation, pregnancy, and other seasons of reproductive health without identifying as a woman.

Giving Back Knowledge

For generations, knowledge has been withheld by a narrow and privileged group of people. Acadia School of Midwifery strives to democratize the flow of knowledge and we reclaim intuition, ancestral tradition, relationship with nature, with our body, and our lineage as integral parts of knowledge building and resources.

For these reasons, our School of Midwifery provides not only evidence-based knowledge, but also functional and herbal medicine, holistic approaches, and rites and rituals practices within all our Journeys.
